New space

Obed has taken a major step toward its future. In what way, you ask? Well, for those of you out there that know us know that Obed and it's business was being conducted from the living room a small one bedroom apartment, which had rapidly become smaller due to rolls of fabric, shipping boxes, lack of storage, etc.
But now we are proud to convey that we have aquired a loft space which will serve as our design studio/ manufacturing facility.
Check back soon for we will post photos of our new work space.

Obed/Anointed Pen Flyer

Front
Well, we figured it was time to show you all what the prayer mat looks like unrolled. Unfortunately in this flyer you are not able to see the detailed stitching in the mat. Sorry. The great thing is, you will be able to see the stitching and much more in the website photos on May 1, 2009. This is the official www.obed2sam.com/ launch date.
Glory be to God.

Back

The Anointed Pen is an amazing graphic design studio run by gifted and talented christian artist Nigel Morgan. The above image (Release Those Bags) is the first of many universal pieces done by Nigel which speaks directly to those emotional places within us all. Do you know what bag(s) you have to let go of?
This image and many others will be available for sale as prints and posters at www.anointedpen.com. Unfortunately his website is under construction but you can also find Nigel at anointedpen.blogspot.com.

The bank encounter

Hello All,
I'd like to share something with you that made an impact on my life yesterday.
It was around 2:00 p.m. and I was about to exit the bank after making a deposit. To my right there were two ATM machines. One of them was in use by a gentleman who appeared to be in his late 40s to early 50s. The second machine was occupied by a girl possibly in her mid 20s. As I reached the exit the girl had finished her transaction and dashed through the doors before I could. Just before she got out of range the gentleman (I'll call him John) turned and yelled, "Please pray for me."
The girl looking back gave him an uncomfortable smile and disappeared out of sight. His words catching my attention, I looked back and made my way out too. About ten feet away the urge to go back in and use the ATM hits me. So I turn around and make my way back in. The second machine still available, I put my card in the slot, quickly punching in my code. John who suddenly seems paniced furiously begins rubbing his head and mumbling uncontrollably. I look over at him and the expression on his face reveals agony and pain that only someone walking in his shoes could understand. I ask if he is OK. Not able to stand still at this point, he says, "I can't take it anymore, it's to much."
Not wanting to pry, I tell him, "Hold on, it'll get better." But as I said this, it sounded empty and meaningless. I realized then that he needed more than sympathetic words. So I asked if he knows Christ. He looked at me with tears in his eyes and said, "I don't go to church as much as I used to."
The next thing that happened caught me completely off guard. My heart became heavy and began to race uncontrollably. Movement around me seemed to vanish. Then I heard God deep inside tell me, "Pray for him." The words were echoing in my spirit loudly and my heart became even heavier. Now I must admit, I have never publicly prayed for anyone and never thought that would I have to. I always felt embarrassed, thinking, what would people around me say? what if my prayer doesn't sound right? What if I stutter and stammer over my words? I realize now none of that matters. In that moment what did matter was the person standing before me in dire need, and what I needed to do was get out of the way so God could move. So I asked john as I held out my hands, "Would you like me to pray for you?"
He replied, "yes, please!!!" Instantly the coat and backpack he had been clutching so tightly fell to the dirty floor between us. He placed his hands in mine, we bowed our heads and I began to pray for him in the middle of a bank. I won't say that it was easy because it wasn't. I still stuttered and stammered over my words and frankly I wasn't sure what I should say to God on his behave, but what I realized was, that in my trying, and taking the time to talk with someone I didn't know, this potentially saved his life as well as someone else's.
Once we were done praying, I felt the need to stick around, just to make sure John was OK. I asked him how he felt. He never answered, he just thanked me and shook my hand. He began rubbing his head again asking, "How much do you have to go through before you get to the other side?" I don't think he was expecting an answer, he was just getting things off his chest. So I stood by quietly and listened. He proceeded to tell me about his friend of thirty years who had recently put a gun in his mouth and committed suicide. John expressing his sadness said he had thought about doing the same but ultimately couldn't do it. Thank God.
I guess at this point he felt comfortable because he began opening up about different aspects of his life. How he lived in a small room in Harlem, how he went from shelter to shelter for meals but through it all he knew that it was God who was sustaining him. He continuously said that he knew there were people worse off than he and that God comes in His own time but when was God coming to take away his pain?

The company question

I was asked a question the other day that got me thinking about this blog, "What kind of company is Obed?" It was then that it dawned on me, I haven't really told you all what it is we do here. Well, in a nutshell, Obed is a New York based christian bag and apparel company. We design and manufacture an on-going sport series entitled Speak Life. This series is a daily reminder to God's children to boldly speak into existence the life God desires for us to live. A life of good health, abundance, victory, peace, wholeness, etc....

So speak life.

"Life and death is in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." Proverbs18:21

Now, in the coming days, there will be an item here that has nothing at all to do with bags, but will be an introduction to them. This item is the Obed Seed prayer mat, a tool we created to inspire God's children to humbly kneel before Him in prayer and worship. So all you prayer warriors and potential prayer warriors out there, get ready.

What does Obed mean?

We've been getting this question a lot although I must say, i'm not surprised. Obed is pronounced oh-bed. It is of Hebrew origin, meaning servant of God or worshipper.

Obed-Edom, "the Gittite" was entrusted with the Ark of the Covenant by King David. The Ark of the Covenant remained in the house of Obed-Edom for three months and God blessed him and all his family. The people told David, "The Lord has blessed the family of Obed-Edom, and all that belongs to him, because the Ark of the Covenant is there." So David went and brought up the Ark of Covenant from Obed-Edom's house to Jerusalem with joy.
2 Samuel 6:10-12
